As we’ve seen in recent years, the chaos and uncertainty happening in the world have caused us to shift inward and mold our homes into peaceful escapes from the stress of reality. This can all be seen in the interior design trends expected in 2023. These trends all center around creating a calm home that is neutral, open, and reflective of the character of its owner. If you are looking to sell your house this year, pay close attention to these trends, as buyers may be more inclined to pay for a home that has these elements.

Neutral Colors

Aside from the dedicated dark room in your home, neutrals and earth tones are making a full comeback. Neutral colors go well with almost any design, but especially as trends shift to earthy, natural vibes, they are more important than ever. Neutral colors help take away visual clutter and bring the focus back into our space. Unlike years past, expect some new neutral colors to gain in popularity, like lighter blues, greens, and reddish browns. Grays and off-whites will still have their place, but they will take a backseat to more unexpected neutral options.

Mixing Old With New

Thrifting unique pieces are in line with the rise in popularity of sustainability, but also the call to make your home reflect your own personality. For so long, home trends made every home devoid of personality and individual charm, but the pendulum has swung in the opposite direction, and now quirky, cool pieces are in. These thrifted pieces can be incorporated into the existing decor to add an unpredictable and eccentric touch throughout your home.

Sustainable Homes

We’ve seen sustainability grow massively in popularity over these last few years, and interior design is no exception. Just as fast fashion is going out of style, so is fast furniture. Homeowners no longer want synthetic materials like acrylic in their homes and are instead opting for natural materials like cotton, wood, and linen. Many designers are choosing repurposed mid-century pieces over new items and are incorporating vintage touches to add character to their homes.

Dark, Calming Spaces

A trend that has grown tremendously is dark academia and embracing dark rich hues throughout your home to create calm spaces. Many homeowners are choosing dark greens, reds, and blues for their libraries, offices, studies, and even bedrooms to create spaces that are not as bright and harsh where they can go to relax. Light-colored walls tend to bounce light around the room and are great for productivity and energy. On the other hand, these darker rooms are places for rest and reflection where one can go to recharge from the chaos of the day.

Overall, expect interior design in 2023 to focus on sustainability and peacefulness. Designers and homeowners are being more mindful of the pieces they buy to decorate their homes and are painting their walls to reflect the energy they want in each room.
