If you’re looking for a holiday getaway near Chicago, there are so many great options, all within a short drive of the city. These places are all within 100 miles of Chicago and range from beaches to nature to winter festivals and shopping.
Glencoe, Illinois
Located only 15 miles north of Chicago, Glencoe is a great place to go when looking for a holiday getaway near Chicago. If you’re looking for a bit of green space outside of the city, this is a great city that won’t take too long to get to. While you’re there, check out the Chicago Botanic Garden and visit the Grosse Point Lighthouse. During the day, make sure to go for a walk along the Green Bay Trail.
Woodstock, Illinois
The third 60-mile destination is Woodstock, Illinois. You may recognize it from the movie Groundhog Day! Spend the day exploring the historic town square and browsing some of the many local shops. If you’re looking to get away in February, make sure to come back to partake in their annual Groundhog Day Festival.
Indiana Dunes, Indiana

Indiana Dunes National Park covers 15 miles of the southern shore of Lake Michigan and has much to offer. This piece of the Lake Michigan coastline has some easy bike trails and exceptional birding. If the weather is nice, you can enjoy the wide beaches and enormous dunes.
Fox River Valley, Illinois
Fox River Valley is only 60 miles outside of Chicago and is an excellent place for a getaway. This area is home to quite a few charming towns full of delicious restaurants, historical homes, and boutiques. While you’re visiting, make sure to see a show at St. Charles’ Arcada Theater.
Saugatuck, Michigan

Romantic destination that is less than 3 hours drive from Chicago. Originally a port and lumber town, Saugatuck became a notable artistic hub and tourist destination towards the end of the 19th century. So don't be surprised to see lots of art around with the cute local art galleries. Try local wine since Saugatuck is part of the Lake Michigan Shore Wine Trail. My favorite go to place for brunch, lunch and dinner is The Southerner.
Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie
Also located only 60 miles outside of Chicago is the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie. The wildlife here is prevalent, and it’s the perfect place to unwind and connect with nature. The prairie is 19,000 acres and can easily be explored for an entire day.
Lake Geneva, Wisconsin

Lake Geneva is a perfect escape from Chicago over the holidays! There are plenty of hotels and resorts to stay in and even more restaurants to try out. The most significant selling point is Winterfest, which includes ice sculptures, bonfires on the beach, and so much more. It’s absolutely worth the 80 mile drive out of Chicago.
Madison & Milwaukee, Wisconsin

I first time visited Madison on the 4th of July this year. I loved how clean the city was with many good restaurants and city attractions. Don't forget to book a dinner at Eno Vino Downtown for delicious food with a view of the Wisconsin State Capitol.
Milwaukee is located just 93 miles outside of Chicago, there is always something going on in Milwaukee. If you love cheese, then this is a place to go. ;) Some notable things to do in Milwaukee include visiting the Milwaukee Art Museum, touring the Pabst Mansion, and taking a simulated motorcycle ride at the Harley-Davidson Museum. If you’re lucky, you can catch one of the many art, music, or food festivals happening in the city regularly.
Starved Rock State Park, Illinois
Last but certainly not least is Starved Rock State Park, located 100 miles southwest of Chicago. It’s a gorgeous state park located along the Illinois River with 18 sandstone canyons, 14 waterfalls, and plenty of rails. While you’re there, cozy up in Starved Rock Lodge.
