Neighborhood Highlight: Lincoln Park

If you’re someone who enjoys greenery and getting out into nature, Lincoln Park might be the place for you. With over 1,200 acres of green space, this Chicago neighborhood is perfect for outdoor activities. Residents can enjoy lakefront trails and beaches with a view of downtown Chicago. Or, they can take a visit to the park to enjoy a free zoo, theater, nature museum and conservatory, five playgrounds, and a 15-acre pond. With so much to enjoy in Lincoln Park, it’s no wonder the area is gaining in popularity with Chicago residents.

Lincoln Park has plenty of affordable apartments in historic brownstones that are within walking distance to local shops and cafes. Lincoln Park is a great place to raise a family! There’s so much to do in the area, including the namesake park that provides plenty of space for children to run around and play. The five playgrounds in the park are a perfect place to take kids on a nice day, and the free zoo is an activity your family will never get tired of. The town itself also has plenty to do, including a robust performing arts and music scene and lots of recreational activities.

Schools in Lincoln Park

Lincoln Park is home to many top-rated schools, making it a perfect place to raise a family. All schools in the area are A-rated and have impressive teacher-to-student ratios. There is Prescott Magnet Cluster School, Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, and Oscar Mayer Magnet School for elementary school. For high school, most students will attend Lincoln Park High School, rated #1 in Niche Standout High Schools in Illinois.

Getting Around Lincoln Park

Lincoln Park is accessible by three lines. First is the Brown Line, which connects between the Loop and Kimball. Next is the Red Line, which services between Howard and 95th/Dan Ryan. Lastly, the Purple Line Express has a rush-hour service between Linden and the Loop on weekdays. Lincoln Park’s CTA bus options and L service also make transportation in the area a breeze.

Lincoln Park Restaurant Scene

This Chicago neighborhood is home to many highly-rated restaurants and is a great area to grab a bite to eat. Most notably, Lincoln Park is home to Alinea, the only restaurant in Chicago to earn and retain three stars from the Michelin Guide. At Alinea, you will experience a 6-course tasting menu of arguably the best food in the entire city. As if one Michelin-rated restaurant wasn’t enough, Lincoln Park is also home to Boka, a one-star Michelin restaurant since 2010. While you’re in the area, make sure also to check out Goose Island Brew House, Café Ba-Ba-Reeba!, and Geja’s Café.

Shopping in Lincoln Park

Lincoln Park is well-known for its shopping scene, and once you’re there, you’ll understand why. Along Clark Street and Diversey, you’ll find an entire street filled with some of the busiest storefronts in Chicago. Head over to the Armitage – Halsted – Webster area to see rows of local boutiques located in the area’s historic row homes. Here you’ll find high-end clothing, handmade gifts and accessories, children’s toys, and so much more. If you’re looking for more well-known brands, head over to Clybourn Corridor to do your shopping.

For grocery shopping, there is a large Whole Foods located right next to the Fullerton Red and Brown line stop that is stocked with just about everything you could need. A short drive north, you will find a Trader Joe’s. There are plenty of other food shopping options like Food Mart, Mariano’s, Fresh Market Place, and Stop & Shop.

The Arts in Lincoln Park

If you are interested in the arts, Lincoln Park is the perfect Chicago neighborhood for you. There could be up to ten productions happening in the area at any given time. Along Lincoln Avenue, you’ll find Apollo Theater, The Greenhouse Theater Center, and Victory Gardens Biograph Theater, which all put on fabulous productions throughout the year. If you like comedy, you won’t want to miss The Second City, a comedy club home to some of the most talented comedians. On top of performing arts, Lincoln Park also supports local artists through Art on Clark 3D, a public sculpture project hosted by the chamber of commerce. The entire community supports art, and it’s prevalent just about anywhere you go.

Lincoln Park is one of the best places to live if you enjoy green space, good food, and the arts. It’s a historic area of Chicago that’s bursting with charm. Between the acres of green space, the free zoo, miles of shopping, and two Michelin-recognized restaurants, who wouldn’t want to live here?
