Spring cleaning is the perfect way to refresh your home as you welcome the warmer months. In the winter, we’re stuck inside all day, which leads to a messier home and more accumulated clutter. If you’re looking to get a good, deep clean, you’ll want to divide your spring cleaning into rooms to ensure you tidy your home from top to bottom. Not only is this a good ritual to do a few times a year, but it also keeps your home in good shape if you ever decide to move. Clean, clutter-free homes spend less time on the market than their cluttered counterparts. Even if moving isn’t on your immediate radar, getting the work done every spring can help when you are ready to move. Make sure to follow this spring cleaning guide to kick off your cleaning spree.
Cleaning Your Kitchen
The best place to start your spring cleaning is in the kitchen. This is where a majority of clutter ends up, especially if your family uses the kitchen table or counters as a dumping ground for mail, papers, and other belongings. Below are a few things to address when spring cleaning your kitchen:
● Audit your fridge for any expired food or produce
● Wipe down the fridge shelves and handles
● Clean your stovetop
● Clean the inside of the oven
● Deep clean your dishwasher
● Discard expired food in the pantry and reorganize
● Clear off countertops
● Reorganize drawers
● Organize and wipe down cabinets
● Dust tops of surfaces like the fridge, cabinets, and microwave
● Deodorize the garbage disposal
● Declutter kitchen appliances
● Wipe down the walls and baseboards
● Sweep and mop the floors
Cleaning Your Bedrooms
If your family members are old enough, delegate tasks for respective bedrooms. The below can either be done one bedroom at a time, or by items like side tables, closets, etc.
● Wipe down walls and baseboards
● Declutter and dust tops of dressers
● Donate unworn, stained, torn, or unwanted clothing
● Organize drawers and closet
● Strip and wash bedding
● Vacuum mattress with baking soda
● Vacuum or mop floors (depending on the type of floors)
● Dust blinds and curtain rods

● Wipe down windows
● Vacuum or wash curtains
● Clean mirrors
Cleaning Your Bathrooms
Bathrooms are another major undertaking for spring cleaning. If you like to get the worst task out of the way, you’re welcome to start with this one first. To do a deep clean of your bathroom, make sure to do the following:

● Sweep and mop floors
● Wipe down walls and baseboards
● Consolidate personal care products
Cleaning Your Living Room
Per the name, your living room is where everyone spends most of their time. Because of this, the living room tends to need the most love during spring cleaning. Make sure to dedicate plenty of time to cleaning your living room. Focus on the following:
● Wash slipcovers, blankets, and pillows
● Shampoo the carpets
● Declutter and dust furniture
● Vacuum the couch and chairs - make sure to get underneath the cushions
● Dust blinds, curtain rods, and lampshades
● Wipe down windows and window sills
● Dust ceiling fans
● Dust electronics and decor
● Wipe down remote controls
● Sweep and mop the floors
● Wash rugs
Cleaning Your Garage
Reserve the garage for a nice day when you can open the garage door and pull everything out. You’ll likely have tracked salt and rocks into the garage during the winter, so doing a deep clean is essential to avoid bringing more debris into your newly cleaned house.
● Declutter toys, tools, sports equipment, and other miscellaneous items
● Sweep floors
● Wash rugs or carpets
● Wipe down the garage door and frame
● Wipe down garage door openers and replace batteries if needed
● Clean windows and frames
● Remove your cars and take them to the car wash to remove salt on the bottoms from winter
Miscellaneous Items to Address While Spring Cleaning
Aside from sticking to rooms in your house, there are a few things you should make sure to do throughout your home when spring cleaning.
● Open windows to let in fresh air (especially while using cleaning products)
● Clean all lighting fixtures and replace dead bulbs
● Test all smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
● Check and replace air filters
● Wipe down door handles and light switches in every room
There you have it! By breaking your spring cleaning down by room, you’ll give yourself plenty of time to give your home the deep cleaning it needs after a long winter stuck inside. Once completed, you’ll be ready to enjoy the warm weather and enjoy your clean home.
